Sports Chaplaincy Australia (SCA) was originally established in 1984. It was then known as Specialised Life-Orientated Ministries (SLM). In 1993 SLM was established as an Incorporated Association in NSW under the ARBN of 085 483 923 and soon after received Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status from the ATO. In 2022, Sports Chaplaincy Australia became a national company limited by guarantee.

The Sports Chaplaincy Australia Limited National Board is committed to the highest levels of corporate governance and serves the organisation to ensure that its vision and strategies are effectively and responsibly delivered.

Luke Tattersall

Board Chair

Luke is an avid surfer, League supporter and Senior Pastor of Balmain Presbyterian Church. Luke has served SCA as the Board President since 2007.

Tim Argall

Board Deputy Chair

Previously an elite soccer player, then club & representative coach for more than two decades, now a local sports club chaplain since 2012, Tim combines this background with his school principal experience as he serves SCA Board's passion for equipping it's Chaplains well for their ministry.


Phil Bryant

Board Secretary

Phil is a Pastor, Church Health Consultant and Board Chair and Executive Officer of Kennedy and Mandurah Baptist Colleges (Perth). Former Pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church WA and serves as the chaplain of Perth Wildcats (NBL). .

Lisa McInnes-Smith

Member

With a background in sports psychology and teaching, Lisa is an internationally awarded motivational speaker (CPAE) and high performance expert. She brings to the SCA Board her love for sport, dedication to helping people and extensive community and corporate leadership.

Mark Smith

Member

Mark is Senior Canon of St Michael’s Anglican Cathedral, Wollongong. He’s previously served churches in Sydney city, regional NSW & oversees. He was previously chaplain to the Sydney Roosters (NRL), alongside RSL chaplaincy & board involvement with charitable & Christian organisations.


Andrew McKenzie

Member

Andrew is the CEO of Word Investments Ltd and Bethel Funerals. He has worked at the AFL and other sports organisations and has significant experience in the charitable sector with World Vision, YMCA and Vinnies.

David Purnell

Member

David enjoys playing golf and tennis. He has extensive leadership experience with World Vision both in Australia and globally. He brings to the SCA board a love of sport, and strengths in strategy, coaching, risk management and accountability. David holds an MBA in International Development.

Tim Hanna

National Director/CEO
Tim has had wide and varied ministry roles in a number of states, including leading churches, lecturing at Theological College and in the leadership coaching space. He also spent a number of years in the Not For Profit space including 10 years as the CEO of Compassion Australia.

He is a sports tragic, playing a number of sports competitively including Australian Rules football, cricket and tennis as well as umpiring AFL and a season as chaplain in Rugby League.

Tim brings a wealth of experience and passion for the church, community and leadership in his role of National Director/CEO of SCA
